This position is located with the Operations Officer, Public Works Office/Deputy Public Works Officer Maine (Kittery), Production Division, Base Support Vehicles and Equipment Branch, Naval Facilities Engineering Command Mid-Atlantic, Norfolk, VA. The purpose of this position is to operate gasoline or diesel powered automotive equipment with wheel or crawler type tractors in the transportation operations and vehicle maintenance. This position may perform building maintenance in the plumbing and electrical fields. You must be a US Citizen. Must be registered for Selective Service, see Legal & Regulatory Guidance. Suitable for Federal employment as determined by background investigation.
Operate one or more types of heavy equipment to excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth to rough specifications on such projects as breaking new ground for trails, roads, airfields, or other construction sites
Operate clutches, levers, brakes, controls and accelerator in a variety of heavy equipment such as boom cranes, graders, tractors, passenger busses, etc.
Drive one or more trucks such as platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks or dump trucks which typically have a gross vehicle weight (GVR) over 32,000 pounds, on public roads at highway speeds.
Maneuver equipment in confined areas to avoid damage to equipment or surrounding area.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision such as: 1) Operate one or more types of heavy equipment, such as front-end loader, backhoe, bulldozer, to excavate, backfill, grade, compact, scarify, slope, spread, break and remove pavement, cleans sand/dirt, and removes metal from streets and parking areas; 2) operate motor coaches to transport passengers on long distance trips; 3) utilizing cranes and other heavy equipment to move loads of material safely and accurately; 4) operate motor coaches to transport passengers on long distance trips; and 5) Drive one or more vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) over 32,000 pounds on public roads at highway speeds. Position requires good hand, foot, and eye coordination, good depth perception and a high degree of concentration.
Physical Demands: There is a constant effort involved in climbing in and out of equipment and to manipulate controls in heavy equipment. Location of controls while observing the work being accomplished often requires working in awkward/torso twisting positions. Heaviest weights handled will not normally exceed 100 pounds without the use of lifting equipment. Carries will not, normally, exceed 100 feet.
